Default Convoy Fun....

On my way to my patrol grid, and after missing out on a chance at a task force....

Dec 1939....

So I come across a nice big convoy with a fat tanker and only one escort. A nice heavy aux cruiser.

I spend alot of time positioning us to line up shots on the cruiser and tanker at the same time, but during a distance check, some alert deckape notices my scope, and everyone freaks.

The tanker is closest, so I start an attack run on it, by the time I'm in position, the cruiser is way in the back of the convoy, I'm in the middle of it. I launch 2 fish at the tanker, one fish at a C2 cargo ship at bearing 180, and turn to face the cruiser, which is heading straight for me, reset tubes 3 & 4 for mag detonation, head back to the scope.....

Aux cruiser is at 1000m.....need to turn 20 more degrees so i can get a shot at it....full speed.....900m......800m....."we're all gonna die Capt!" "Steady...steady..." I finally get turned around, launch both fish right in his teeth at 600m.....seconds seem like hours...I keep my course and my scope up because I don't want him to alter course and evade the fish.....one torp hits right under his bow - then the second in almost the same spot - "Full right rudder!" I do a quick scan to see where I can run to escape our impending doom. Why aren't we turning?!? "not enough crew in engine compartment sir" - We're all gonna die!

After much flailing of arms and gnashing of teeth, just as I get the crew situated, and the engines cranking, I hear a "Woohoo!" from the crew and check the scope. The cruiser is taking a nose dive no more than 100m away.....I'd actually sunk the bugger with inches to spare....

With the escort out of the way, it was like shooting fish in a barrel. I got my highest tonnage ever - 64K tons. And I never even made it into my patrol grid.
