Default It's August 1943, and man it's getting tough!

Damn, these aircraft are just on top of me every few hours

And the DD's have graduated with sub-sinking school with honors

This is going to be some rough waters ahead

I keep hearing horror stories of the later years, and it's making me a little nervous about getting there. Wonder if it will still be fun even. Some people claim that it's a blast, while others hate it. I wouldn't know, I'm still in 1940

I was fairly stupid back in '43, and deserved what I got...
I was just west of Loch Ewe, plundering a few small ships that was annoying me by their presence. Just some coastal vessels, tug boats and stuff whilst waiting for the heavier stuff.
Well, I soon got the "radar detected" warning. BaWOOGA!
Didn't hit the water soon enough to avoid having some ten bombs hurled at me at great velocity. Brought the hull down to 28%, and completely knocked out my diesel engines.
Of course I wasn't able to return home, so I had to call for a tow.

I've found that in 1944 I'm using the snorkel and periscope rather than travelling on the surface in order to avoid being detected by planes. When I do spot a plane or planes, I lower both and the planes usually fly on by.

I cant wait tell '43 and onward.

The tonnage war gets kinda boring, and i look forward to a better challenge.

Yes - it's challenging...before the snorkel, there's a really high probability that you'll get sunk on the first patrol that planes have radar (I think it's around June '43). Theres a month or two there where there's no snorkel, and bombers will indentify you on radar (like every few hours) and drop 6-8 bombs right near or on you. Lucky if you survive 1 attack, but somewhere in the 5-10 times you get hit on a patrol, you will meet the big blue maker. My IXD2 never got out of biscay after planes got radar.

Not to be too melodramatic, but...it's damn ugly.

I'm mid 42 and had my first run in with a B-24

43 sounds like it's going to get me.

Look to the heavens, for death shall desend
