Default sound bug

Hi all,

couldn't find another post on this- on my home computer (but not on my laptop) I regularly get an annoying sound bug - when something loud happens (and sometimes randomly), this really loud repetitive scratching or wooshing sound kicks in and drowns out everything else, forcing me to turn down the sound until it stops. It sounds a bit like the roar that monsters made in the Hercules cartoon series. Anyways, sometimes it goes away if I switch screens (i.e. to inside the sub). I tried installing a new OGG codec, but it persisted. Has anyone else had this problem?

Windows xp
Pentium 4 2.4Ghz 512mb ram
SoundBlaster Live
Radeon 128
SH3 1.4b w/RuB 1.44

Lower your audio hardware acceleration settings using the slider bar and this problem should go away.

hmm...i found a slider in dxdiag for audio acceleration, took it off maximum and left it at normal...but the problem still occurs. Kinda stymied on this one. I've had it happen in other games, but not all other games. I have a feeling it's linked to the .ogg file format, but am not totally sure. Anways.

The HARDWARE ACCELERATION slider is accessable via Windows' Control Panel's entry for your audio driver, usually somewhere under the driver's ADVANCED button.

Another option that should be investigated is finding there and disabling your audio adapter's digital sound support.

I have the same problem here. But it doesn't seem to go away. It stays until you exit the game. realy annoying as you can hear jack on the hydrophones and as i don't trust the operator and do it myself to find those realy faint contacts it gets super annoying

I also have the same problem. I tried turning down the hardware accerlation also and it didn't help. It occured with the game without any mods, so that is not the problem.
