Is it just me or do other players get a little careless when you gain experience from a few patrols? Playing DiD, I was stalking a "large" convey in Sept 40 when I was attacked by a Hurricane. Normally, these seem to be only nuisance value so I spent a few vital seconds more than necessary checking the position of the convey before diving........
Bad decision - 2 depth charges (or bombs) later and I had suffered bad flooding in two compartments and going down rapidly. Valiant efforts by the damage control party (bit inexperienced - lesson for the future) to no avail and down we went until the red bodies in the compartment heralded the end. ![]() Ah well - on the plus side, I can report a sighting of the elusive FW200 in Biscay (hurrah) and a titanic air battle of U100 vs 4 Sunderlands who seemed rather shy, caused no damage and I shot down all four! ![]() But seriosly - to all rookies.... the lesson of the day is - see a plane and ALLLAAAARMMMM get down quickly!! ![]() |

Are you playing with RUb? I believe RUb reduces the number of planes to more realistic and historical quantities, although increasing a plane's lethality at the same time.

Call it carless or stupid but I've modified my concept of Dive! Dive! Dive! Everytime my WO reports planes sighted especially when they are at long range. I get a few reports first to see what their bearing and distance are. If they appear to be closing then I dive. Of course the weather at the time has a lot to do with the decision.
I didn't realize RuB made them more lethal. It sure doesn't make them more accurate. I'm more worried about them spotting me and reporting it to the Royal Navy than them actually hitting me. I've received minor damage once and that was one of those lovely times when as I'm getting the warning I can hear the whining of the planes engines as it is making it's attack run. Which leads me to a question that's bugged me. Does using the crash dive command make your U-Boat go down any quicker than if I first hit Flank speed then either the periscope depth or dive command? In shallow water "crash dive" is a bad thing ![]()

If the weather is clear and I am in those circles on my sh3 map
I stay at P-dept or 25 to 30 M and listen on my sonar. If I have a visual I try to get in postion at P-dept. I learn not to trust the flak gunner to save you, If I get caugh on surface I hit the flank speed and crash dive and try to change course on way down. I have lost a boat with a spit fire air attack. Hit me dead center with his bombs ![]() Lane ![]() |

Planes are very dangerous, I always make "crash dive" after report of plane spotting.
During my previous career I was sinked by Hurricane near North Scotland, crash dive was too slow. ![]() |

Airplanes are very bad and will more often than not ruin your whole day.
