I just got an e-mail message talking about a class action lawsuit against Sony. It puzzles me. I have never heard anything about a class action lawsuit. It is about the "Disc Read Errors" people experienced a while back. I had a launch PS2 and it died due to the same thing. I did replace it (thankfully before those thin PS2's hit shelves). Here is the message:

IF YOU OWN A PS2, YOU COULD GET BENEFITS FROM THE SETTLEMENT.

A proposed settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit concerning the performance of the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system ("PS2"). You may be a member of the Class whose rights may be affected by this lawsuit. The sole purpose of this notice is to inform you of the lawsuit so that you may decide what steps to take in relation to it.

If the settlement is approved, Class Members who complete and return a Claim Form, on or before February 16, 2006, may be eligible to receive settlement benefits. I once got US$100 from Toshiba because the diskette drive that they sold with certain notebook PCs could cause an error under certain circumstances.

Before you respond to them, check out their website and make sure this isn't some sort of marketing ploy. Also make sure you qualify to participate. Also make sure you're indeminified against any counter-claims by anyone else.

this just seems to be the ever growing compnesation culture feeding their greed a bit more.
