Default Saved game crashes-PLEASE HELP

Ok, never had this problem before (well only occasionally) but get it consistently since starting a career in a type IX from Lorient. (Well 2, the old one crashed a couple of times and I had to redo patrols but I lost this career and another when I erased my SH3 folder like a dummy once, story for another time)

I use RuB 1.44, HT 1.46, and SH3 Commander 2.3....plus the hospital ship and the fleet escort mod some camo (the HF carriers), crew cheers and the snorkel fix and that’s it. (That’s enough )

I always had just two saves, (should be more I suppose?) one save game than right after save and exit. Is that the problem ? :hmm: I start from the save game not the last one. I have no idea how to solve it but this is annoying as I lose some stuff like the T3 I sunk last patrol.

What can I do to solve it? I have no idea where to start….any error files I can look at? Is it linked to grid (I never patrolled down by the Canaries, all the crashes were there). Any way to save the current patrol? I always save at a quiet moment on the surface and from the command room.

Please help.

Dont use save and exit.

Save then return to the game then exit.

I have an unmodded, unpatched version (which reminds me i better start downloading soon, excellent stuff around here),and i used to get crashes to desktop when loading games as well.

The catch in this whole thing is that i used a save slot when in contact with the enemy and another one when in transit, overwritting as necessary. Due to the game erasing all the in-mission saves except the one you load,i have lost 2-3 carreers with 1-2 patrols completed each,as ALL of the in base saves got corrupted as well

Some time later i stumbled upon this forum, and i saw other people had the same problem too,and they had updated versions of the game,so it was probably not something a patch would fix. As someone suggested,i started the practice of NEVER overwritting a save game, but numbering a succession of save games according to what i'm doing (e.g transit1,transit2 and so on)

Up to this point i haven't had any saves corrupted,so it looks like it's working. Just in case,i backup my saves anyway,so i can reload a previous one if another one refuses to load.

Ummm that's what I did, well I saved returned to the game, then save and exit.

Then reloaded the save game not the save and exit.

Maybe just a corrupted save then.

Dont know but I used to get corrupted saves using save and exit before. Now I save, return to the game and then exit via the games interface without saving. Havent had problems since.

Could just be a coincidence.

Not really. As blackdog_kt said, make regular backup of your save games. If you like you can send me your entire mydocuments\sh3 folder, maybe I can recover your save games.

not sure, but i heard that havng 2 careers at once can corrupt your saves. i had a similar problem before. now i only keep 1 career and stopped using the save and exit funtion. no problems so far, but its only been about a week and a half.
