Default deckgunner & watch officer

I got burned large - it was misty and i encountered a coastal merchant in the med. I couldn't identify the flag, so i left it to my watch officer to decide by letting the deck gunners 'open fire'. They started shooting at it so i figured it was an enemy. It took me like an hour and 60 shells to sink it, and it turned out to be a friendly! Wonder why my deck gunners cut loose on it?

The Deck gunners will fire on anything you let get in their sights. The way to prevent bule on blue engagments to

1 Have the deck @ flack guns set to hold fire.

2 Don't lock targets untill certain the hostile.

Best of hunting

If they are set to "fire at will," I don't think they will engage friendly or neutral units. They will only fire if you lock the targets with the binoculars. To be sure, just never do this, and let them pick the targets.

As I recall it's a bug they introduced in 1.4b and I'm almost sure they fire at everything if the guns are maned, so better set the guns to "Hold fire".
