Default Penang Bound

Just a quick question to see if anyone has done the trip to Indonesia in a IXc

I've got one of the Monshoon U-boats (U-148 - by memoery, I'm at work) but am awaiting RUB1.44 downloaded by a mate at work for me, but he's taken a sickie today (I'm not worried about the day off, but priorities, he should have at least brought my USB card back) so now I'm waiting til tomorrow arvo to install Harbour Traffic and Rub and Sub Commander all at once and do one last patrol so by them I can hopefully get the Snorkel.
U-146 (iirc) had a snorkel and left in May 43 from norway. And my current end of patrol is April 43 - stil no snorkel

So, does HT have a Milchcow SE of Madagascar or middle if the Indian ocean where historically they were, cause I'm doubting the IXC has the range to get there 1 way.

Might have a create a Single Mission to try the trip tonight.

Thanks in advance

I've criused the globe in a Type XXI, there is some traffic around out side of the KM Grid's but its few an far between. However, IF u hang around an area long enough, traffic increases. I haven't tried a Type IX boat so I cant say if you will make it. All I can say is, Stop often at any friendly port and good luck.

Penag was a nice sleepy lil sea side port and the women and wine went down well. Made for a pleasant change from the snow bunny's in Norway !!

Aren't you gonna do the trip without time compression?

Hey! Are you saying our wimmin aren't good enough for ya? Actually, I'm inclined to agree. Not that I find anything wrong with the local girls, but exotic girls are more, well, exotic.

I have actually been to Penang a very neat island where, in WWI, the dashing von Muller on Emden entered the port and destroyed a small Russian cruiser and a French torpedo boat.
He commandeered a local transport for a hospital ship for the injured enemy seamen.
Different time!!!

In WWII Japanese atrocities abounded. The army commander would line people up and see how many he could behead with one whack of his Samari sword

Today it is a high tech pocket (Intel has a plant there) and mostly Chinese decedents making it less like the Muslim mainland of Malaysia.
My cousin was a missionary (forbidden!!) private school teacher so I was his only family to ever visit him there.
I was doing a story on the Eastern Oriental Express train and was on my way to the Bridge on the River Kwai and then Burma.

Made it in a IXC
With 3.5k to spare running at 9kts.

So now I'll do it with my career Sub (that actually went there, and got sunk by a Allied sub off the coast of indonesia, but no chance of that happening in SH3

It'll be interesting to see what the career mode brings.
I figure that there'll be more aircraft buzzing me on the way (none during single mission) and how that effects the fuel efficiency. :hmm:

I'll keep everyone informed.
