I've played a few campaigns now and have really mixed thoughts about homing torpedoes. Given the limitations of early models (which I don't mind) I find the way how escorts act in relation to them, quite weird.
Example: 1) Shoot homing torpedo at escort (successful ambush, I wait for it to pass me and I shoot from behind), the escort through its super telepathy radar system knows I shot a homer so it goes to instant top speed and continues at top speed until it is out of sight, with the torpedo chasing it, or; 2) The esort has spotted me, so it comes charging over at high speed, good time to shoot a homer. After shooting, the escort's speed drops to less than 12 knots, and either stays there or moves along at a lower speed. How it knew I shot a homer, I've got no idea. Any one else ran into these problems? |
