A couple "noob" questions

I greatly enjoy SH 3 but I have a couple issues Id like advise on.
I have problems leaving some ports in the dark of night , I sometimes can't see things and run into them , is there an easy way to navigate out to open water ? and also about half the enemy ship indicators I see on my map seem to be ghost ships and are not there when I get to them :-(

any help would be appreciated.
