Default Need help with modding!!!

can anyone explain me how to install mods?

I installed the Generic Mod Enabler, and I guess my problem is that you have to create a map around your mod with the same structure as the SH3map you wish to mod. But most mods dont have a helptext wich explains what that structure should be....

Does this sound logical, or am I completely taking nonsense?

Hello Sebbe and welcome to the forum!

every mod you want to install with the mod-enabler has to have the same folder structure than your SH3 Installation.

The root folder of the mod has to be the name of the mod and is free of choice.
If you have downloaded a mod that is jsgme compatible you´ll have to copy this folder the the MODS folder of jsgme.
After that the mod will be recognized by the programm, but only if the folder structure of the mod is done right by it´s author.

This is a typical folder structure for a jsgme compatible mod:

CA_dials/data/Menu/Gui/Layout/Dials1.tga

so you´d have to copy the folder "CA_dials" to the MODS folder of jsgme.

Another one:

TypeIId_skin/data/Submarine/NSS_Uboat2D/NSS_Uboat2D.dat

Copying the folder "TypeIId_skin" to the MODS folder would install this nice new typeIId skin.

Try browsing a little bit trough various mod folders and your SH3 installation, after a little time you´ll feel quite familar with the games folder scructure.

I hope i could help you a little bit, please excuse my english! :P

edit: the first place to visit for sh3 mods

JSGME comes with a step-by-step guide (JSGMEHelp.txt). Do you have any specific questions?

Copy the cfg and the dll file into your main SH3 dir, that´s the one where you also find SH3.exe. Then use the Toolkit. After that open d3d9.cfg with Notepad or any other text editor and set the resolution (resX and resY).

Default Directions in community manual

Gizzmoe,I very much appreciate your interest in my quest for learning. You & I both know graphics are just eye candy but so is art and we all like sweets.SOOOooo What I am trying to communicate is that file dx9res10 is the only file I can move, the sub files appear to be hidden? Only RAR will let me read them.#2 hold up-The step after the SH3 save in the community manual is not there to follow. Also when RAR allows me to see,it dosen't let me edit. It,has a res. setting indicated, also;I thought I needed to indicate a path for screenshot folder.I find these directions frustrating, not communicating how to.I could be wrong,if I am,please enlighten! encouragement,Donut

Donut, you must unpack/extract the dx9res archive first. Right-click the archive in Windows Explorer, then you see "Extract to dx9res10\". Left-click "Extract to..." and WinRAR unpacks it to a new directory. Then copy d3d9.dll and d3d9.cfg (both files are in the dx9res10 directory) to the main SH3 dir. After that do the "Application Compatibility Toolkit" dance...

MX4000 or MX400? MX4000 should work, if you have a MX400 throw it away and buy a new card...
