Default map or not to map

ok! only had this game for about a month or so and im just getting the hang of fast 90 manual targeting.

curently running at 67% realisum and i am now thinking off going to no map updates.
how hard is it to run with no map updates?
do you get any extra radio updates apart from convoy reports?
or is it a case of listen ,listen and listen alot?

what do you old sea dogs recamend! :hmm:

Turning off map updates makes SH3 a whole new game. Attacks become harder but much more satisfying when you have to do all the plotting yourself.

However, there is something overly difficult about turning off map updates, since in the real world you would have a crew that could plot marks on your map. I'd suggest using Observer's Assisted Plotting mod. It allows you to select and view information on a single target at a time (emulating the information you crew would give you), without showing you ship icons on the map. Good luck!

I`ve started to play with 'no map contacs', I know it is more satisfying when you sink a ship... but... I have to find one first...

Where can we get that mod? Is that the same mod included in real uboat 1.43?

This is the same assisted plotting mod that's included in the newest version of RUb. Note that it does result in some problems with single ship contacts appearing on the map. However, this mod is supposedly a fix for the problem, though I haven't had a chance to test it yet.

You should still be getting convoy and single ship contacts on the map. You are correct - the gray squares that are showing up are contacts that are being radioed to you by BdU or that your radio man is detecting. As you note, you won't be seeing anything on the tdc map, or see anything on the nav map when you're zoomed in.

No map updates may be hard, but it's not sadistic!
