Default Task Force Spotted!!

captain's log

time: dark thirty
location: BE38 ish
date: november 1941

heading NW BE38ish, seamens hans and frans spot an enemy warship off the port bow. a quick glance thru the scope confirms the presence of a large task force heading perpendicular to my heading, about 5000 meters away. the lead ship is identified as a king george class battleship and is making about 21 knots. i adjusted my course and laid 4 fish to mark at about 4000 meters. all fish hone true...

directly behind the kill is a revenge class battleship...and another behind it...

all available fish are fired, but the enemy begins evasive manuevers and changes course heading away from our position.

all torps miss their mark. orders are issued to dive deep, reverse heading.

35k tons - woot!

yes, campaign mode...

the escorts really weren't very aggressive even though they were pinging me..

sighting and sinking an illustrious carrier a few days back and now a task force in somewhat the same area makes that quadrant one of my new favourites to haunt...

you guys here have it good you fire on everything and anything my patrols are off your maps so no point me quoting you anything and my submarine is a hell of a lot more advanced than any of yours including the XXI.

in my game a good hunt turns up a submarine or ship or target of importance i rarely use my weapons my patrol area is the arctic ocean where ships are very few and far between subs arnt though

you guys have it good i envy you for the sinking and the fact i cant use SH3 yet

keep up the good work and keep the sinkings up

Better than the XXI?. Of course, your in a modern sub that is capable of destroying cities! the difference is you are all about under the sea moving silently searching for sonar contacts and hardly ever surfacing. SH3 is about on the surface looking for targets and only submerging when a target is sited or sometimes staying on the surface and taking the enemy on with the deckgun. SH3 has ww2 uboat war as a reason to create a naval war game, its based on the history that actually happened. Where Modern Sub sims like Sub Command and DW have to make up a "What If" war naval sim, not very realistic. The closest you could get is create a mission where u have to go into the Argentina port and sink a few ships with a british sub, which did happen in the Falklands war.

No we take it all on the chin and get depth charged for 4hrs, and then theres some that do the "Crazy Hans" manouver and flank speed to the surface and take them all on with the deck gun, seen this many times online :rotfl: This usually happens when the Kapitan has had one to many depth charge attacks while on patrol.

Alot of German uboat commanders suffered at one time or the other cronic depression cause by to many depth charge attacks. Im actually seeing this happen to some SH3 players, including myself

kiwi:

i'm in an IXB boat, got it by transfering around and then taking it to st. nazairre. i travel with decks awash at 7 meters and at that depth, that sucker can dive lickity split. just love it, only wish i had more deck ammo...

i tussled with a passenger liner today letting the deck crew have their way...great fun firing at the funnels. i felt bad for her after awhile and put a torp in 'er side...that ended that.

the spot of lite is my deck gun...

time to put 'er down

and, no picking while on duty, i'm watching...

Yes theres nothing like having a watch crew that fall to sleep on the job so we must keep an eye on them so u cruise around at a depth of 7 while on the surface, thats a good idea, i might do that when i spot a convoy etc., Thanks for the tip.... nice shot as well
