Hi there all. I'm a new member of Radio Room, but I've been lurking for a while.
I have a few questions that I couldn't find through searching (maybe I'm using the wrong terms). I'm using SH III 1.4 with the TII range mod and the full vulnerability mod installed, yadda yadda. Playing at 45% (because I'm a big chicken at the moment :P ) 1. Mines. I've noticed people talking about them, but no one seems to have had too many difficulties with them. What's the range on their triggers? I've noticed on a couple of incursions into Scapa (early war, early to mid 1940) in my VIIB, while cruising and keeping my eyes on a Torpedo boat that was running around, I hit the external cam key and my sub was passing over mines. Just wanted to know what kind of proximity I can get to these things before they decide to turn my boat into a collander. 2. I was hunting merchants in the strait between Scapa and Ireland, and I picked up a Task group steaming quickly south. Seeing as it was night time and pretty crappy weather, I took a guess and headed towards Loch Ewe, where I thought they'd be heading. I was correct, and hit a Nelson (this bit's pretty much just bragging rights ![]() 3. When leaving Wilemshaven, I was maintaining a straight course to leave the bay and I noticed a type 34 destroyer was patroling in an intercept course. I wasn't too worried until it got to within 150 meters of me. I kicked it up to flank and went hard to starboard to avoid it, but it seemed like the end was nigh. It got in front of me, say within 30 meters, and then stopped, and reversed. Do the destroyer search patterns take sighted ships into consideration, or do they only vary when a collision is imminent? I can't get enough of this game. Last night I'd crippled a C2 in good weather, and surfaced to finish her off with the deck gun. Got to the watchtower just as the sun was setting, the skies were orange, birds were flying around the boat and it was quiet except for the sounds of Moonlight Serenade. I got caught up in the moment so I didn't realise that there were planes circling in the skies above me. So atmospheric! Congrats on a game well done. |
