Default Squirmy convoy!

I intercepted a convoy in the AM51 neighbourhood. I lined up, waited for the ships to come into range. Once they were all in periscope range I noticed something odd. The first few ships were nicely lined up moving along the general bearing of the convoy. However the second part of the convoy was all squirming around each other!

I sunk a T2 and moved away to line up again, by the time they came into view again, the whole convoy was squirming! I made a few more attack runs (been stalking it for about a day now I think) but the squirming does not seem to end.

Has anyone experienced this, and if so do they ever line up again?

I am not using any mods except for the transparant torpedo screen.

If they're zig-zagging from port to starboard then it's part of their torpedo evasion, they were probably spooked by a report of uboats in the area...either that, or the Convoy leader has a bad case of hiccups.

If only 1 ship sees your scope up, they will all know it in short order. Of couse, once one was sunk, they were all nervious....

There are a couple of convoys which has the ship seperation a little too close for the AI's liking (less than 500m). As such the ships will try to get into position, find they are too close and evade etc, so they will never settle down.

Well its not zig-zagging I have ever seen. The screenshot shows my second attack where I sink the clemson. After this it got much worse. I guess I will stalk them for a full day and see if they will line up again.

I never get convoys marked on my map like that.

I've seen a couple of convoys get confused like that after an attack.

But the great majority of convoys just start zig-zagging after the first torpedo hits.

I guess it must represent a bunch of novice cargo captains in panic after your attack. You must have done something right

I have seen this several times before. An anoying bug. I once had the situation that I hit a tanker that slowed down. The C2 just after him didnot evade the tanker and ended lined up behind the tanker trying to push it. Of course the tanker didnot move at all. The other ships in the convoy messed around and disappeared. I took my time until the destroyers left and liberated the two ships from thier unbearable misery.

Seen this before - more realistic I think than a uniform response, they are not Borg or of one mind but individual Cpt and crew. Nor are they driving the same vessel.

I've seen that happen a few times too. Its not zigzagging, more ala SH2 AI that made it into SH3.

After learning to live with it in SH2, I just sorta accepted the fact that its gonna happen in 3. At least in 3 they do tend to correct themselves after a bit, where in 2 the convoy would be playing bumper cars for hours on end.
