Default May 1943

So I make it to May 1943 with a IXC and get sent to BF17 for patrol.

No problems but is enemy air cover this bad?!?!?!!?!?!?!!?

Not only do I get belted by depth charges but there is always over seven airplanes dropping a unlimited supply of ordenance.

I cant go further than six kilometers before getting the aircraft warning. No matter if its night or day. (no snorkal available yet either)

I just played for two hours and have only gone 23 km.

This just sucks.

Once you are detected your chance of an air attack is dramatically increased and eventually decays with time to normal levels. I would recommend staying submerged for several hours under these conditions and only submerge when necessary to recharge

Raz, the "Happy Times" are definately OVER !!! Now you will have to WORK for your tonnage. Not very FUN but very REALISTIC !!
You will now be using every trick in the book and some you will
have to make up to survive. Mid 1943 - Survival is 90%, sinking
tonnage is 10%. The pendulum has swung to the other side !!

Yeah but only two mouth to the snorkel...That will be a relif.
It's new times, The deck gun has out played it's part and is only good for looooong range artillery actions becuse nearly all merchant is heavy armed and some has more guns than the most warships.
New air defence tactics are needed and more and better guns so we could stay up long enought to reload our extarnel torps or batteries...
The 37mm M-42 gun is highly recomended and is better than the quad 20mm.
AIRCRAFT SPOTTED!!! MAN THE GUNS!!! BRING OUT AMMO!!! Ahead flank zick-zack or lock your rudder and go in a continues cirkle.
The best is the cirkle, Indians/cowboy style and suddely the planes will find you hard to hit and gets a wall of AA fire in return I hope.

Have you read "Steel boat, iron hearts" ? (u-505's story by a control room guy) there are mutiple references to the air cover pressure being very high. Welcome to the difficulties real commander had to dealt with without the pressure of loosing your men's life and yours.

Well, I did a change in procedure.

I did what was mentioned before. Stay surfaced and fight. Flank speed and full left rudder.

I have gotten one hundred kilometers and have racked up over 17 confirmed aircraft kills.

I keep this up and I will do better than a certain person called Galland had done. :rotfl:

No doubt, but I reccomend reading Herbert Warner's book "Iron Coffins" if you really want a taste of May '43... it's a miracle his men and boat survived the war at all! (most didn't)

Cheers!
