Default sailing across the Atlantic no TC

I was wondering if anyone had ever sailed their sub across the Atlantic with no TC and if so, how long did it take?

Default Without TC?

I'd imagine you could have your navigation officer estimate how long it would take by just plotting a route. It would likely be extended if you had to slow down or evade ships, or do other activities, and speed up somewhat if you were going at a faster speed.

I'd not be crazy enough to do it without TC

...sailing from Bay of Biscay ~5deg W to ~70deg W is about 3900 sea miles T=D/S.

Doing 8 knots will take you a little over 20 days...have plenty of books in the Cap'n's cabin.

According to

http://www.eere.energy.gov/vehiclesa..._fotw364.shtml

fuel was only $0.18 per gallon back in 1940.

I guess that would depend on the U-boat's fuel efficiency.
What kind of MPG did those puppies get? :hmm:
Supposedly, the original Queen Mary cruise ship (launched in 1936) got 13 feet to the gallon!

Fuel almost free, Well not when the avrage wage was still about 7 U.S.D a day.

That would make it costly for it's day at that rate.

Thank god for time compression. I don't have the time to cross the Atlantic at 1/3 speed.
