Default A Lengthy, planned kill

The war is 6 days old. U53 of the 7th Flotilla departed Kiel 3 days before, on September 3rd, 1939 for her first war patrol.

She's come across a loan merchant travelling slow, hugging the British coastline, but the weather and sea conditions are apalling to attempt a sucessfull torpedo attack and even at Periscope depth, the diving officer can't keep the boat level and the conning tower keeps breaking the surface water considerably.

The Captain in his wisdom, (being me, lol) has decided to let the merchant pass, then turn about and follow them to wait for a break in the weather before striking.

This could be a fun hunt guys. Thoughts anyone?

its possible to torpedo even a small merhcant in heavy seas, but you may waste one or two torps in the process. Single merchant traffic isnt that valuable, but if its your first patrol and you want to open your score then the enthusiasm is understandable. Shadow and sink it, youll have to watch time compression etc and it may reach its destination before the weather clears...

I've had this game since it came out and haven't played it in about three months.

The enthusiasm to play it has kicked back in. I'm confident a break in the weather will present itself for me to begin an attack run :P

I think that's a good idea. For the first time in a long time, I've run into a single merchant, a small merchant, but the weather was foul, and the ship spotted me. I wasted 3 bad shots before I decided to shadow her. After some TC, the target resumed course and the weather improved, and I had all the data I needed for a perfect 90 degree AOB at 800 meters.

It wasn't my finest command, using four eels to bag a small merchant, but my crew believes she was carrying that infernal Dr. Indiana Jones, so the price was worth it.
