Default Unable to detect air ctcs with the FFG

With the North atlantic Convoy mission, I am unable to detect the AS-4 coming at me even though I have my air and surface radar radiating. I tried many things and it is always too late!!!????

This missile is a high diver missile so I should detect very early. I have noticed that the Backfire is at 4000feet whis is fairly low but still I should detect those big missiles at a good 30NM minimum.
But not at all. I am still disapointed with the FFG and her weapon system
Hopeully somebody can help me!

Yea good luck, damn hard to detect them I don't know if it is an error or correct but they are so damn fast that it doesn't make a difference. One of them in your FFG and you are history.

Just launch lots of chaff.

Mau,

I am just 'road-testing' an MP scenario I've designed and neither the FFG or a Wasp AI have any trouble launching
intercepts against the Backfires missiles but the kill rate seems to be about 66% . That is a problem !

The Backfires missile ingress is sea-skimming but it is easily d istracted by nearby non-programed targets.
Guess a few civies will have to suffer, as usual.

Correction the AS-4 Kitchen anti-ship missile carried by the TU22-M Backfire F/A has an ingress at 18000 ft.

In game launch at 1.2 km remained at that altitude until diving to run-in on target. (Was observed incorrectly at this stage)

My tip for the "north atlantic convoy" mission is to keep your radars off. I found it still launched at me, but enabled them early and so gave me a lot of time to shoot at that EW contact(s). And the missiles are limited in number.

YMMV, though. This may have been before the patch.

How do you know the altitude of the missile?

If it is 18000 ft yes then it is good but in North Atl Convoy, the Backfir as at no more than 2400 ft (unkess I didn`t look properly but fairly sure.)

Still the rdar should detect it! I will try agin. May be because I am trying on a saved game all the time, and it is not recreating a proper situation.

Other comments?

18000 ft is real life, reportedly- source Harpoon database.

In-game observed Kitchen in 3D after launch - there was no apparent change in altitude after launch on the run-in.
Was looking as co-incidentaly testing for a scenario under preparation.

This missile could seriously shorten the FFG players MP day - I was looking at its performance to limit its effectiveness in-game. :hmm:
