Default Can't decide...

I have absolutely no idea, what I should choose. Maybe you can recommend me something. So far I started 1939, first flotille, under the comannd of admiral dönitz.
Thx for your recommandations

Welcome,

I have usually started in '39 in the 7th flotilla at Kiel. This is a little slow at first but you get to start with a Type VIIB and you have plenty of time to get your crew trained up before the tommies get their act together. When france falls you get transferred to St. Nazaire which is the easiest of the Atlantic ports to navigate.

If you get tired of the Type VIIs, you can transfer to another flotilla and get a Type IX but be warned. You will be assigned patrol sectors that are a long, long way from home. The IXs hold more eels but are slower to dive, a factor later when allied airplanes become as thick as flies on a carcass.

Hope that helps.

I usually start in the second flotilla (Flotilla Mod by Beery iirc) with a type VIIB in 1939; then after a few patrols (usually two), I get the the type IXB. The longer patrols are a ok, as you can use time compression; what I really like about the type IX boats is the larger torpedo loadout.

As I mainly hunt convoys, the slightly slower underwater speed and slower dive time is not much of a factor because of my convoy attack stategy of sprinting ahead and waiting submerged within the convoy's path. Late in the war, usually '41, things start to get more difficult for us captains; and you might want to switch to a type VIIC, especially if you're being hammered by aircraft or find it hard to evade destroyers. The type VII's have much better dive times and manueverability (and I think they're quieter submerged too, but I don't know if the game models that), so escaping is a bit easier.

That is the good thing of this game:
You can choose whatever you want!

Anway I like to start with the 7th Flotilla in France in '40 .
Base St Nazaire....and nice type VII U-boats.

I start at first flotilla mostly, and do 3 patrols or so in a type IIA, then transfer to 7th, where I grab my VIIB, and then I stay with 7th. It keeps me around my favorite hunting grounds.
