Some people find the sausages in the control room distracting. I edited my interiors so there are still some sausages and hams in the aft section. With all that food hanging around there would be nothing to stop me or anyone else from just grabbing a sausage and chowing down. I love sausage. I just hope the single toilet room wouldn't get too crowded when I need it. Hopefully the smell of diesel fuel can cover the stench of all the extra feces being created. I guess the faster you eat the food the faster the second toilet room becomes available.

And that bring up something else... namely the phallic symbolism of all those sausages and bananas. I mean, a U-boat is already enough of a sausage fest without all the extra reminders dangling in your face! I wonder if that was a deliberate decision to include in Das Boot? I don't recall it being in other sub movies.

I'm pretty sure that if you went around eating everyone's sausage on a u-boat, you'd get ... a reputation.

I guess it is better to be distracted by sausages in control room then to be distracted by hunger. ![]()

Actually, there is no true need. The food in GWX 3.0 and GWX - Knight's Cross edition is tied to the diesel level, thanks to Diving Duck. As fuel is consumed, so is the food you see in the interior. The sausages at the player default control room position should be the first to go. (This is true at least in the Type VII interiors and Type IX interiors.)

nice, I didnt know that as well. I thought they were just decorations because we do not need to manage the food in SH3. So technically the more we burn fuel the faster we chomp sausages ![]()

Before 1943 Uboats carried external reload sausages under the deck casing. It was only possible to carry steamed sausages in this way as electrical sausages reacted badly with the sea water.
A type IX could carry 247000 sausages in this way, enough to feed 60 Germans for several weeks. |

It turns out my previous post is true, I just asked chatGPT and it said the following:
The Type IX U-boat was a large German submarine used during World War II, primarily for long-range missions. The external reload sausages (also known as external torpedo tubes or "torpedo sausage containers") were used to carry additional torpedoes outside the submarine for quick reloading. The Type IX U-boat had four external torpedo tubes, two on each side. These tubes were sometimes used to store additional torpedoes for reloading during combat. However, the exact number of torpedoes that could be carried externally would depend on the specific configuration of the submarine. In general, the Type IX could carry up to 24 torpedoes in total, including those in internal and external tubes, with up to 6 or 8 additional torpedoes stored externally in the torpedo sausage containers. However, these numbers could vary slightly based on the specific model (Type IXA, IXB, IXC) and modifications made during the war. So, to answer your question, the Type IX could carry about 6-8 torpedoes externally in its reload sausages, depending on the specific configuration. Honest truth! Apparently the "torpedo sausage containers" could also be used for torpedoes. What an awesome world we live in! this is great fun. i think I'm going to dedicate my remaining years to "educating" AI's. Anyone else up for asking chatGPT leading questions about the sausage carrying capacity of various u-boats? Every little helps, our species' survival is at stake.
