Astrophysics Poops the Bed
ROFLMAO! Humans! Too funny! Now watch how fast they compartmentalize this so as not to have Dorothy and Toto look behind the curtain and affect their paychecks. Stop and think about the dominoes and ripples of this. And remember this story the next time you see some Internet moron post, "Because science, duh!" Science, eh? You mean the science that is largely responsible for bringing the world to its present state? Oh yeah, Pure genius, LOL! ![]() ![]() |

Science is exactly that. Creating a theory one can work with, until some other evidence is being found.
"You think this would frustrate astronomers, but instead it opens the door to discovering new physics, and confronting unanticipated questions about the underlying workings of the universe. And, finally, reminding us that we have a lot more to learn among the stars." Living in caves sure has its merits of course, and the world would be a better place with a lot less humans ![]()

Religion claims stuff that cannot be tested, and says that's the truth. Its stuck with unproven and unprovable claims. Blindly believing these is declared as a virtue and a stregnth. I believe it is an intentional short circuit in the intellect to save mental battery power.
Science, as Cat said, tests an explanation, and fully understands that all explanations are only temporary. There is probably not one single scientific theory that has stood the test of time. Its always about the best way that current knowledge allows observations to be sorted in categories that we ourselves have developed and imaginaed. And observation as well as knowledge is always limited. We never observe a reality of the last instance, the "real" reality - we always only observe reality that got exposed to our subjective way to ask questions about irt. Science does not claim eternal truths. We interpret reality only, but we do not directly see it via our science. But today we live in what I would call already post-scientific times. Science fundamentally, in almost all branches, is deeply corrupted by special interest and economic profit-oriented lobbying. Its basic working principles thus get intentionally deconstructed. Makes me very angry. Beyond that, I always keep a famous quote by Mr. Spock on mind: "Logic is the beginning of all wisdom, but not its end." I think there is no hope for insight and understanding if this is not understood on a very deep level. Its more than just a fancy humorous joke.

I'd rather say that it is being ignored lately, when uncomfortable for personal and political preferences.

Ideological interests, economic and profit interests, opportunistic career interests of individuals, prestige interests by institutions and universities, financial funding and donations interests, special interests groups' and minorities groups' interests, preessure to comply with the mainstream paradigm and dogmas, and the interest to prevent the fall of paradigms and dogmas that somebody or an institution has wrongly donated his and its whole lifetime's work to - you meet the problem everywhere meanwhile. Oh, and political pressure, of course.
