Icon8 Why I lose hope that the human species will survive

I firmly believe that the reason products have safety notices are because there is a history of people being dumb.

Submitted as evidence:

I recently purchased an insulated lunch cooler. I was pleased to find out that it included a pair of chemical ice packs. Well, I can always use more ice packs and these were a nice large size.

The packet was labeled High Performance Ice Wall with Deep Freeze performance gel in very large letters. So far, so good.

Then I read the safety warning notices on the product.
There are direct quotes from the product I received

  • Do not heat. Do not microwave.
  • Not meant for human consumption
  • The contents are a safe ice substitute but not a food product
What???

I can only surmise that, at one time, someone took an ice pack and heated it by putting it in to a microwave. Call me traditional, but I tend to use ice packs to keep things... well.. not hot.

I guess someone saw this large squishy pack and thought to themselves, "hey, I can drink this like a juice pack"

Then, there was that person who after eating their picnic lunch still felt peckish and decided to cut open this ice pack and munch some more.

So why, in 2025 do we not have flying cars??

Because there is a very good reason why we don't
