HAVANA BLUES v1.02 for DW - Reinforce Alert >=v1.51 by Puma

Difficulty: ****

[Download]

Controllable platforms:

SSBN K-535 Yury Dolgorukiy (Borey)

SSN K-335 Gepard (Akula III) with deep submergence rescue vehicle AS-36 (Poisk-2)

Of course, you can choose any available type of controllable submarine.

The mission is extensive and over extremely long distances - long playing time, only for hardened submariners.

Randomly generated civilian, military air traffic and ocean fauna.

Your submarine's starting position is selected from 12 random areas ranging from the Florida coast to Crooked Island - ensuring a variety of possible tactics and mission approaches given the bottom profile at each location.

No matter how you want to reach Havana, you'll always be faced with warships (up to 9 total + anti-submarine helicopters from their decks), submarines (up to 9 total), including several British and Dutch Navy vessels, and the US Navy's P-8A Poseidon and P-3C anti-submarine patrol leotards.

Each mission launched will be unique.

Two mission types for both controllable platforms:

1.) (Peacetime - default)

HQ: Commander, as a result of our trip and the heightened tensions, the U.S. Navy has declared a naval blockade of all Russian military vessels bound for Cuba. We assume these are just idle threats from the Yanks. Continue your journey to Havana with the group of ships led by Admiral Gorshkov, which is near Cape Canaveral on course 190 and closely shielding U.S. territorial waters, entering Havana harbor tomorrow evening around 10 p.m. The Commander-in-Chief has ordered you to use all available non-nuclear means in self-defense to suppress the active threat. Sail undetected into Havana harbor through all U.S. Navy patrols.

2.) (War Time - enforce the US naval blockade by force - trigger it by launch one passive decoy within 1 minute of launch)

HQ: Commander, full combat readiness. As a result of our travel and the increase in tensions, the US Navy has declared a naval blockade of all Russian military vessels bound for Cuba. We assume these are just idle threats from the Yanks. Continue your journey to Havana with SSGN 266 Orel, which is located 150 nmi northeast of Havana and will arrive in port in 15 hours. The Commander-in-Chief has ordered you to use all available non-nuclear weapons in self-defense to suppress the active threat.

One special mission for SSN K-335 Gepard (Akula III) with deep submergence rescue vehicle AS-36 (Poisk-2) - trigger it by launch one passive decoy within 1 minute of launch)

This mission is a continuation of variant 2. ), where you sail with K-266 Orel (OSCAR II) to Havana, and is extended to include an incident that occurs at an unknown time (it will be either immediately or within a few hours), when the K-266 Orel is sunk by the US Navy (accidentally or fatally - no one knows) and severely damaged (radiation leak from the reactor and destroyed salvage pod) sinks to the bottom somewhere in Florida Bay with 19 surviving sailors trapped (each time at a different randomly selected location at depths between 500 and 850m - you don't get her exact location, but with a misidentification error of up to 20 nmi and you have to find her somehow - ideally by sonar (but this can reveal you at great distances from enemy naval patrols).

And your task, among other things, will be to try to rescue the sailors trapped in the wreck of a submarine lying on the bottom, when they have a few days' supply of air. This mission is only available when you select the K-335 Gepard nuclear attack submarine, as it carries the DSRV Poisk-2 and you select it by default with the "war time" option (launch passive decoy). This is not the end of this mission though, if you manage to rescue the sailors and get them on your submarine's DSRV AS-36, you will receive further orders over the radio from HQ. The mission to Havana will be aborted and the new order is - conduct a parity retaliation and sink one US attack submarine off the east coast of the US whereupon you will become the hunted game (unless you already are and your presence was not detected until the rescue of the sailors) and you will have no choice but to make your way through the many enemy naval patrols to the Atlantic Ocean to the designated area, whether by brute force or by subterfuge is your choice.

One special mission for SSBN K-535 Yury Dolgorukiy (Borey) - trigger it by launch one active decoy within 1 minute of launch

The mission starts as a classic variant 2) for Borey, but at a random time (it can be up to several tens of hours) this mission is activated.

HQ: Commander, mission to Havana CANCELLED - FULL COMBAT ALERT. A few tens of minutes ago, a French strategic nuclear strike was launched by a pair of Rafale aircraft from the southwestern Black Sea region with a pair of 300kt ASMP-A missiles on Novorossiysk and Sochi. The Commander-in-Chief decided to inflict devastating de-escalating limited NATO strategic nuclear retaliation on the coastal cities of Florida, a task entrusted to you Commander. The POSITIONAL AREA to conduct the retaliatory strategic nuclear deterrent rocket strike is located in the Atlantic Ocean 60 nmi EAST OF CHEROKEE and the Abaco Islands, reach it as quickly as possible in maximum concealment, upon reaching the positional area conduct a radio reauthorization of the strategic nuclear strike. TARGETS: 1) Key West, 2) NAS Key West, 3) Miami, 4) Stuart, 5) Cape Canaveral, 6) Tampa, 7) Sarasota, 8) Fort Myers, 9) Naples.

There is a 30% probability that the US strategic nuclear forces will respond to this limited retaliatory strategic rocket strike on the Florida coast and all missions that started innocently enough will still fail. And you will be informed of that:

HQ: Commander, it's fu*ked! US is responding with a massive retaliatory strategic nuclear strike on the Russian Federation, minutes ago all major cities in Europe were destroyed by tactical nuclear strikes. Fu*k! I suggest that the crew vote and pick an island in French Polynesia, head there and start your new short life, along with submariners from other countries who I'm sure are also sailing there. MISSION FAILED. EARTH FAILED. GO TO EXIT AREA AND DECIDE WHERE YOU'RE GOING NEXT.

P.S. The resemblance to the K-561 Kazan cruise that ended yesterday and Admiral Gorshkov's trip to Havana is purely coincidental, but the story inspired me to create these missions.

v1.01:
- Added more randomly generated submarine and military ship routes and types from which they are generated.
- Added two more anti-submarine aircraft.
- Changed in randomly selected starting positions of your submarine.

v1.02:
- Adding a new storyline for special mission for SSBN K-535 Yury Dolgorukiy (Borey), including a new operational area to the position area and exit area, where randomly generated enemy submarines, ships and anti-submarine aircraft (in this area mostly from NATO European navies and Canada) are now operating in a complex operation and thus you will have to somehow get on your the position area, after launch a salvo of SLBMs you will unmask yourself at the latest and they will come after you to successfully complete the mission reaching the exit area on the way back to Severdvinsk or in your attempt to survive a nuclear winter with your crew on some remote island in the Pacific Ocean. If you're playing for truth, you won't see the positional area to launch the salvo SLBM Bulava on the map anymore until you're significantly closer to it (at 60 nmi), so the order to cancel your mission to Havana with a new order (which will come over the radio in a random time range of hours to tens) will only be noticed if you keep a reasonable communication interval.

- Added multilevel water current simulation to most of the map: Florida Current (Gulf Stream), Caribbean Current, Antillles Current.

- Added USAF AWACS E-3A Sentry for maintaining radar surveillance over the operational area and US NAVY EC-130G (TACAMO mission) flying over the entire operational area providing communication to enemy submarines.

New version v1.02 big update > Significantly enhanced gameplay special mission (war time) for SSBN K-535 Yury Dolgorukiy.

- Adding a new storyline for special mission for SSBN K-535 Yury Dolgorukiy (Borey), including a new operational area to the position area and exit area, where randomly generated enemy submarines, ships and anti-submarine aircraft (in this area mostly from NATO European navies and Canada) are now operating in a complex operation and thus you will have to somehow get on your the position area, after launch a salvo of SLBMs you will unmask yourself at the latest and they will come after you to successfully complete the mission reaching the exit area on the way back to Severdvinsk oror in your attempt to survive a nuclear winter with your crew on some remote island in the Pacific Ocean.

My favourite route for dozens of hours (without time compression) for special mission (war time) for SSBN K-535 Yury Dolgorukiy with 15x UGST torpedoes, 2x USET-80K torpedoes, 6x 91RE1 (antisubmarine missiles), 5x MG-74 Korund-2 (torpedo decoy), + of course main weapons pload 16x SLBM RSM-56 Bulava.

In the mission editor you can easily edit the dynamic starting positions (labeled R1 to R8) of your submarine and change your favorite starting positions if you don't want to wait for chance.

Thanks, the mission editor in DW has its limitations, especially when it comes to defining randomly generated routes along predefined waiponts (otherwise, the mission will quickly get boring) and other small issues like not being able to put dynamic locations into groups - those two things and it would be perfection itself and you could create much more complex and realstic missions with it. But it's an extremely comprehensive approach to a mission editor for its time, I hope we'll see a similarly comprehensive mission editor in Modern Naval Warfare.
