Need help with sh3 commander (gwx)

I have been trying to fix this for the past week and it just isnt working. I have a vanilla version of silent hunter 3 (from steam), I do the 4gb patch, it works fine. Then i get sh3 commander and the game refuses to load. I can do everything except starting or loading into a campaign. One possible reason might be the sh3 commander gwx config as i have no idea where to install it. Right now i just select the sh3 commander file inside the sh3 folder. I've even tried removing every file related to sh3, please help me fix this

nevermind, forgot about compatibility mode

Not sure about Steam installations. I think the default Program Files directory messes things up, maybe someone who knows about Steam can say. I think it's best if SH3 Commander is installed outside of the SH3 game folder. The GWX config just gets installed to the SH3 Commander main folder.
