Unlinking Steam from Uplay

I've been trying to install and play SH5 on a new system I bought. It has all of the latest bells and whistles but I've run into a snag.

The problem I have is that when I install SH5 through Steam it wants me to go to Uplay and then download it from there. I tried doing it and running from the Uplay works but it appears that the steam side of the game no longer does.

I checked and the systems aren't linked, so not sure what is going on.
