Love the look of the new Destroyer sim sadly can't run it ,, so l dusted off DC and ran custom missions chasing u-boats with depth charges with mix results ,, then decide why not try torps well after getting the depth setting right l got 3 in a row ,, first make contact and get a track ,lock target, try to stay on a parallel course a 1000 yards or less ,, sub must be at periscope depth ,, keep torp panel on auto until you are ready to fire select single fire and 0 angle ,,lock target and padlock locked ,, when ready to fire switch to manual and set torp depth to 60 and fire,, good luck and happy hunting

DC’s Enemy subs tend linger at periscope depth making them targets for torps and ramming. They linger too long; aggressively trying to get off their own torps. .This depends a bit on the scenario design. They can also be caught on the surface and shelled.

I remember the first time in multiplayer when the destroyer player sunk my u-boat with a torpedo. We were BOTH surprised at what had happened!

Torpedoes are the destroyer’s original raison d'être . They are interesting weapons in DC. They vary by nationality , date, vehicle type, (air, surface, submerged) etc. The game takes into account the amount and type of explosive, range, failure or dud probability etc .
For example most of the US destroyers in DC use the Mark 15 surface ship torpedo . There are two types modeled., an early and later version. The early version of the Mark15s had similar problems as the infamous Mark14s used by US subs. DC models both the early (fail probability = 0.35) and late model ( fail prob. = 0.08) of the Mark 15. The early Mark15 are switched-out by the game beginning in 1943. The four-pipers , i.e. Wickes and Clemson, use the old Mark 8 torps from the preWWI era in DC . Even though these are older model torps, they have marginally better reliability ( fail prob. = 0.15) than early Mk15s. Last edited by Vox165; 08-16-23 at 06:21 AM. |
