It was 21 years ago today that the U.S suffered the worst attack on it's soil since December 7th, 1941 in which the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor in Hawaii.
Other communities around the country are marking the day with candlelight vigils, interfaith services and other commemorations. Some Americans are joining in volunteer projects on a day that is federally recognized as both Patriot Day and a National Day of Service and Remembrance. The attacks have cast a long shadow into the personal lives of thousands of people who survived, responded or lost loved ones, friends and colleagues and have battled to put their lives together. There were many hero's that day who selflessly laid down their lives to save others. Among them, the many law enforcement, fire companies and paramedics and first responders. Many of those first responders are still battling health issues associated with the trade center bombings. Many others have succumbed to their injuries. May their sacrifices never be forgotten. Just to put it in another perspective
There are people who joined the military because of 911 who are now retired from the military after serving a full career There are people joining the military who were not alive when the 911 attacks occurred. We may never forget, but the 911 attacks are becoming like pearl harbor... something that happened a "long time ago".
