Default Autonomous AI weapons more destabilising than nuclear proliferation?

Food for thought.

https://theconversation.com/an-auton...n-nukes-168049

I am very sceptical on this. I see the military logic in turnign aI autonomous, becasue remote control links with drones can be disurpted yb the enemy. But then the criticism brought up (again) in this article... I add to it that maybe it is not a good idea at all to allow military logic alone to lead us into a decision tunnel where there is no more option left to leave the course plotted for another option, becasue that tunnel know no intersections and crossroads.

Tell that the Chinese however, with their very different views on individual life and its value. Or Russia. Not that I think Western theoreticists are any less eager to go for autonomous AI. They think they are acting on behalf of sensible reason. They have just surrendered to the slippery slope where there seems to be no grip to stop the slide.

International treaties? Dont make me laugh.

The wide availability of high tech components and the options of modular construction will allow just anybody to build such weapons, even in autonomous swarms, anonymously, and strike somewhere, strike someone, anonymously. You can wage war and carry out acts of war without being ever identified and held responsible.

Not good.

And they’re getting smaller, much smaller.

Winged microchip is smallest-ever human-made flying structure

The size of a grain of sand, dispersed microfliers could monitor air pollution, airborne disease and environmental contamination
