Default Johnny Nash: I Can See Clearly Now singer dies aged 80

Quote:
American reggae and pop singer-songwriter Johnny Nash, best known for the 1972 hit I Can See Clearly Now, has died aged 80, his family has said.

Nash, whose health had been in decline, died at his home of natural causes on Tuesday, his son told US media.

The musician began singing as a child and made his major label debut with the 1957 song A Teenager Sings the Blues.

Nash, born in Houston, was one of the first non-Jamaican singers to record reggae music in Kingston, Jamaica.

I saw that on the side of the Van Halen announcement and thought, "Oh well it was probably a long time ago"

"I Can See Clearly Now"
is one of my top ten songs and memories.
I was flying from St Petersburg, Florida to Houston on Southwest Airlines when I first heard it. Flying over clouds below me with the sun above me.

RIP Johnny

My favorite version of "I can see clearly now..." is this one by Joshua Radin:

Replacing most major chords with the corresponding minor ones results in a quite sad and strange atmosphere. I played this version a lot in this year's spring when corona started to kill people in my home town (106 have died from the virus by now). Bright sunshine, blue skies, deadly droplets...

Many years ago, my grandparents had one of those gigantic table-sized record players in their living room. (Like the one in the picture, below.) One day I discovered a bunch of 45s inside and I fired it up. It worked perfectly, including the automatic record switcher.

Anyway, one of the 45s had "I Can See Clearly Now" on it and I remember blasting that song through the house on numerous occasions.

R.I.P., Mr. Nash.

^ Brings back childhood memories for me too as my parents also had one.

They were very popular in the UK at the time and were called Radiograms.
