SH 3 stock game not working

Hi gent, first time posting and new to the sub sim world, i have purchased SH3, installed it on steam. Once i press play the game launches, intro video plays and red progress bar loads, once it is fully loaded the screen goes black and i am back at the desktop, if tried running it on different compatible platforms for example, windows 7, xp, ens, no luck so far, i was wondering can someone give me some advice on this, would realy appreciate it.
