I loaded my rear tubes with the electric torpedoes and had instant success taking out 2 destroyer escorts that did not see them coming. But the third torp I fired just ran around in a circle. Now in the Bismarck sea, I fired one at a troop ship and it just ran around in circles. I had to surface and race after it using gunfire. got it! Is this a glitch or is it the same as the real life Tang get sunk by an electric torp or steam? Her own torp killed her.

From Kurak, Steve (September 1966). "The U. S. Navy's Torpedo Inventory". United States Naval Institute Proceedings. There were numerous reports of the Mark 14 running erratically and circling back on the firing boat. A circular run sank the submarine Tullibee, but it may not have been a Mark 14. Likewise, Sargo was almost sunk by a circular run, but the circular run happened because the gyro had not been installed. The subsequent Mark 18 torpedo was no better, sinking Tang.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_18_torpedo ![]()

The 18s were actually worse, because they had a different pivot for the "vanes" to rotate on, and they would get stuck from the humidity inside the boat. They would execute their turn, and then hang there. Besides the battery, that was another item that was included in "routine" maintenance on the Mark 18 torps, of which, maintenance had just been run on the torpedo that sank the Tang...

ah well back to the 14 for rear tubes. I like those there because they can be set long distance. I have the '22 in front tubes but love the late war 12000 yd green ones.
