Playing SH3 after many so many years has been a joy. With the new mods (and Thank You too all the creators!) I will just say Foreigner was right. It feels like the first time.
One thing I really wanted to address however was the early war escorts sonar. I checked it out and they have extremely short ranges. What that means in-game is if you go deep, the early war escorts don't have a chance of even making active sonar contact let alone being able to challenge you. This was not the case at all IRL. So--I tweaked it. All I did was the following. I changed the range of Type 123A and 128A to 1500 meters. That is much shorter than historical (but even I don't want to be pinned down for hours). I didn't make any changes to sensitivity or anything else. It seems to be working out very well. The early war escorts are now keeping me honest, especially if the sea state is in their favor. I haven't run extensively with those changes yet (it takes a lot of time to properly test these things) but I've had fun actually Working to escape. Keep the escorts in your baffles as much as possible. Giving them a beam aspect makes it much easier for them to detect you. It makes the sim a little more enjoyable for my tastes and I just thought I'd share my experience with you all. Cheers! |
