Hi SYMO
No Enigma machine problems you made an error somewhere either setting up the cypher are decrypting the message. > YouTube Tutorial Peter

Most likely you had a typo while entering characters - once that happens, the rest of the message can turn out garbage.

No..i did it twice, rechecked it all, 1st half of message was fine, no typos, no mistakes, 100% sure on this. half way through I was checking far left column that it matched encrypted message perfectly but the right hand column after half way made no sense, and like I said I did it twice and same thing happened.

99.9% chance it's a simple error on your part and not a problem with the enigma machine. |

Ok no probs ill make a video of the process.
I understand that its not a problem with the Enigma machine seeing as you all put it down to a human error, which is understandable. I was probing to see if there were bugs with it but seems like not. Is it possible to get half the message and the second half be "uncoded" random letters "if" the settings on the Enigma from the start of the decoding process remain unchanged? Or to put it another way, can you have the wrong settings and still get the first half of the coded message perfectly and the rest uncoded? Thanx for the replies ![]() |

This is one of those things where not having an SOP means you'll forget a step (I almost always do). Areas where I forget: not checking the correct year before looking at the bigram tables. Not checking validity of the cipher network and group. Not using the right network when checking the key tables to set up the rotor ring settings. Slipping between dates when setting the plugboard. Typo when setting the start position, resulting in an incorrect indicator. Forgetting to change the dials to the indicator before decoding the message. Typing in the wrong letters. Forgetting that I'm not supposed to type the first two sets of letters when decoding. |

Ok I did it! I think my mistake was not clearing the very first line [PGAZ] which I did this time and it worked.
