Single Mission saves.

I know many of my fellow Kaleuns have suffered this!
How do you stop Silent Hunter III crashing when you try to load a saved game in Single Player?
I have been trying to get through the straights of Gibraltar (SP) for the last week but my Mission safes keep crashing!
Is there a fix for this?
I am running Win10 with a Steam bought SH3.
