Just installed my DVD copy of SH3, 1.4, and GWX 3.0. I’m on Windows 10 and I get a error when clicking the SH3/GWX3.0 icon. Basically it says I’m not running Windows 95
https://i.imgur.com/bfWLTTz.jpg Any helping getting this setup running on W10 will be greatly appreciated Aso544 |

When you ran the disk to install SH3, just where did you install it.
As I know of, if it was installed under C:/Program Files or C:/Program Files (X86), Windows 10 User Account Control, does not like to allow mods to be done to programs, to any app/program stored there... as I recall. If that is the case, then I would recommend uninstalling it, use ccleaner to make sure everything is wiped out, using clean method , followed up by registry clean. After that is done, then reinstall in the following way: C:/Games/SH/SH3 this can be accomplished by opening up in file explorer the main drive, being C:/ then right clicking then selecting new folder & naming it Games, and the same thing for a new folder in Games for SH games, then a new folder for SH3. After that, then run the disk & point it to install into the last folder created. After that has installed then add in the gwx mod. 1 other thing I can think to do, would be to right click the SH3.exe, select properties & in that menu that opens up, go to compatibility tab, select run as Admin & run in Windows 7, click apply then click ok then close that out & try running it again, before uninstalling it & reinstalling it. Hope this helps...

I completely wiped the old sh3 off and reinstalled the DVD version and placed it under
C:\Silent Hunter\SH3 I tried running it and got the same error. I also rain it as administrator and tried the compatibility option using everyone from Windows 95 through Windows 8. Each one still gave me the same error. ![]() I didn’t do the 1.4 update or the GWX3.0 as I figured I’d get the program to run before altering it. What’s weird is my SH4 runs without issues..... That error screen you have there aso544 is not a Windows error, nor is it (that I'm aware of) a Silent Hunter message. Ubi would not have put IBM's OS2 nor NT4 on their list of OSes to use... Do you have an AV app running, or some "protection" app, such as a McAfee overlord that came with the computer? Did you install the DirectX v9.0c when you ran the game install?

The only protection app I have is Windows Defender Security System... I tried to turn everything off but I still get the loading error
I want to say I did load DirectX when I did the install. |

Well..... for 3.99 I bought a Steam copy and it runs fine. It’s came updated to 1.4 but I get an error when trying to update it to GWX3 saying the SH3 must be a clean copy updated to 1.4... which it is.
The GWX3 install show it at C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Silent HunterIII I looked to try and find it in my files but it’s not there. I also couldn’t figure out how to have Steam load it to a location of my choosing. Regardless.... I’m close.... game will load and run... just need to figure out how to.... 1. Get the GWX3 uploaded 2. Get the game in full screen Aso544 |
