Mohamed Noor, former Minneapolis police officer, sentenced to 12½ years in fatal shooting of woman Quote:
You don't shoot people just because you feel fear. There has to be a clear and articulable threat. I can't shoot someone just because I feel fear. If I did that, I would be in the grey place for a lot longer than 12 years.

Having lived in Hennepin County for the formative years of my upbringing in the ghetto of Edina, and ridden and driven in patrol cars; firing an impromptu gunshot at a nice Australian blond lady in her bathrobe across the face of your patrol partner/driver(think blinding muzzle-flash here!!!??) is...incomprehensible. Moreover, it is not 'Minnesota Nice' by any standard; officer Noor got off lightly (12.5 years!!?? )..

I take it as a given that the situation when it happened was loaded with a bit more than just "He felt fear and so he shot" It is said that he heard a loud bang immediately before, than a women with araised arm and a tensed expression on her fac approaching the car and that he felt fear indeed - for the safety of his partner. In a split second he had to decide whether it was amn ambush or not they were in. He decided it was, and reacted to that assessment - and found that the assessemtn was the wrong one.
Split second decisions. I say the same what I already said in the thrad on Peterson: I do not expect officers to self-sacrifice themselves blindly. The event is tragic and a misjudgement of the circumstances. A life has a value and he will live through the legla conseqeunces for his error, and his personal hell as well. But to reduce it all to "He felt fear and so he shot", that sounds a bit cheap in my ears.
