I'm going through my settings with an eye on realism.
I just noticed that the NSS_Balao.sim file has the ranges for the engines set incorrect. The submerged should be closer to 110 miles, if we take the 48 hours submerged for 2 knots as the possible range. The surfaced was also set wrong, but I have three values to consider. What I had was 15,000 miles at 10 knots. Seems long considering the book value on this is 11,000 at 10 knots. TMO has it as 8,700 at 15.18 knots. There doesnt seem to be (or I cant find) the efficiency consumption ratio at various speeds. So I cant compare what TMO has set to what I think should be set. Anyone have any advice on the ratio or more info on how the surface range parameter works? |

I've tried (and so far failed) to realism overhaul the S-Boat. My finding is that the boat sim files have a non-intuitive mechanic. The values inside these files do not translate directly into real-world values.

"Experimentation and Frustration" is the name of the game. Finding a balance between ranges and battery re-charge etc. is difficult and nigh-on impossible, especially if you use the settings numbers as "real life" figures. Only use them as an approximation. The range and the "at speed" affect each other and practically everything else in the sim. ETR3(SS) posted in a thread just recently - or was that a PM he sent me?... Let me find that and come back here...
