Anyone else having this issue on windows 10?

This happens when i load into the game world (not the main menu) EVERY SINGLE TIME. If i choose OK i get dumped back to the main menu. If i hit ESC i can keep playing. But i'm having a hunch that this is the reason why the game always fails to initiate a campaign transfer in the TWoS mod.

u have that problem with and without mods or only with mods ??? or what mods do u have installed can u tell us pls ?

Happens even on a fresh unmodded install.

The game is not installed in \program files\. And setting run as admin or windows 7 compatibility does not help. Oddly enough, the game synchronizes my saves with the cloud just fine (though i wish i could disable that).

Note: This is a UPlay downloaded (non-steam) version. I do have a release-day retail disk laying around somewhere.

Check your games version. It needs to be v1.2. If it is, try updating the version again. Erosion 1.2 is suppose to fix that

The version you get when you do a clean download & install from UPlay is already version 1.2.

Argh, ok, im gonna go dig out my disk and use that to install instead so that it can get "updated" to 1.2.

Will report back.

I've the uPlay version with TWoS as well, but haven't encountered this issue.

Uninstalled the game, and then re-installed it with the disk version. The play button in Uplay changed to an update button. Clicked it. Launcher comes up and does nothing.


I let that sit for a long time and it never did anything.

So i went to the game install folder and ran the gu.exe manually. It downloaded and installed update 1.2 just fine.

Uplay however still shows an update button and wont let me launch it. If i run the sh5.exe manually, that launcher window comes up and does nothing.


Screw ubisoft. Im done. Should have threw this game in the garbage back in 2010 when i first bought it.

i installed today sh5 on 2 different computers and i had no problem at all works fine... try to disable your AV and the crap windows defender

Which OS were the computers?

I dont use any AV. And no im not turning off windows defender for some crap ubisoft DRM.

i use win10 pro 64 on 2 of my computers and on my main i use Linux...
with or without windows defender same crap.... windows defender is useless application and believe me i know what i am talking here...better use a free AntiVirus like avast, AVG, they are way better then that crap windows defender application... and turnig off windows defender for 10 min it,s no harm at all...

aaa forgot to say using windows defender without any Antivirus equal no protection at all

if u don't wanna disable windows defender then go in the windows defender settings and apply a new rule for SH5 for in and outgoing rules port 19000...more thant that i can not help...

Fixed it.

Windows Firewall.

For the Silent Hunter 5 entry.. there was a checkmark next to public, but no checkmark next to private. Put a checkmark next to private, and i no longer get that message when loading into a patrol.

And as i suspected.. with that fixed, the TWoS campaign advance verifier tester finally reports no issues.

as i have told u windows defender issue... glad that u have fix it my recommendation it's still viable to put a free AV and free firewall like avast antivirus and comodo as firewall best free combo out there... or get a paid AV with firewall like avast, AVG, bitdefender this one is expensive
avast premier is around 11 Euro for 1 year 1 pc
avg ultimate is 18 Euro for unlimited computers for 1 year
