Default Guns, photon torpedoes, & Mios

Hi, I'm on my first SH4 career and, glitches aside, greatly enjoying it. I've been looking forward to upgrading to a 5" gun and the Mk 16 torpedo and finally received the former on this patrol. It took a failed mission to Penang (grrr) and circumnavigation of Japan from Fremantle to finally find a chance to use it, sinking three medium freighters on the Fourth of July just off the entrance to Tokyo Bay.

The power of the surface gunnery is impressive: I've since taken down Large Old Split Freighters and today three Modern Liners with the 5" alone. The two 40mm guns have destroyed several small freighters too. I'd love to try out the 5" on a Huge European Liner if I could ever find one unescorted.

Has anyone managed that?

The reason I attacked a pair of Modern Liners with a deck gun is the glitching of my 1.3 build. The torps take off at light speed and inevitably miss at point-blank range, though not always; the normal speed attacks hit as expected. I can't upgrade to 1.4 or install 1.5 on this laptop. That's being addressed but how can I transfer the current career to 1.5 on another machine?

Last, I chose Mios 4me as a user name because of the incredible convenience of the Mios base. Unfortunately, it really is incredible, because the real Mios Woendi was some 700 miles ESE of the game location. Do any of the upgrades or mods address this?
