Silent Service II
Just want to give a thumbs-up to SS2. I never played it back in the day, but a year or so ago I bought the GOG version, and it instantly became one of my favorites.
I just played it last night and had a very satisfying game experience. So far I've mostly played single battles, but I've tried war patrols once or twice, and they're good too.' I've yet to try manual targeting. And I may never do it in this game, as it leans toward being more of an arcade game. If I ever get to be an advanced submariner, I'll probably do it in Silent Hunter. I do play SS2 on Ultimate level with historical torpedoes, though. It's too easy otherwise. |

Actually I like more SS1, because of more immersion with the captain moving inside the sub. SS1 is grafically inferior also less ships modelled but who cares, the gameplay is awesome anyway.
I play it with WinUAE and the Amiga version, the grafics and the controls are way better than on the old PC version. |

Yes, I played the Amiga version to death when I was in my early teens. And my dad borrowed my Amiga to play as well. Great times!

My opinion above seems to favor SS1 instead of SS2, but DON'T let this influence your decision to play SS2: I have played this one too, and for a long time years ago (can't remember, it's just too long ago...). I know the Amiga version with WinUAE will give you slightly better grafics with the same gameplay.
Enjoy! |

This was the game that introduced me to Submarine warfare.
My dad brought it for the Amiga back in the day. It was his game for hijacking my Miggy. He taught me how to play it and talked me through evasion tactics and how to get into position. I have the GoG version as well.
