![]() ![]() https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umarex Well it is with a little bit of nostalgia that I sold my Walther Colt 1911 .22lr today. Really enjoyed shooting her but I don't like to have more than three firearms at one time. When I bought this gun I didn't know anything about it other than I thought it was a real Colt .22lr. I had to do a lot of research on the web to find out that it was imported by Walther Arms but it was made by Umarex in Germany. The only thing Colt about it was the name was licensed and the outward design was based on the 1911. Very fun to shoot and very accurate. I did a lot of modifications one of which was a tactical upgrade making the magazines capable of holding sixteen rounds. Colt 1911 Government Tribute 22LR Rail ![]()

According to this article, Umarex owns Walther outright, so Umarex are both manufacturer and importer, but if being made by Walther qualifies it as "real", then yours was a real as you're going to find. http://www.sightm1911.com/1911Production.htm

Nice website, that would be sweet to have a Colt Ace, if they re-manufactured the design. I have an Osprey book on the 1911. Yeah its hard to unravel the corporate acquisition structure of who owns who. That is why I thought it would be fun to post about to find out if someone in Germany would know more about Umarex. If I remember the engravings on the gun correctly it said it was imported by Walther Arms and made by Walther in Germany. Which makes you think it was made at the Walther facility there. But someone did an indepth video on the proof marks on the gun to show it must have been made at the Umarex facility. Yes Umarex owns Walther but they have two different manufacturing facilities. Its like some corporate shell game to keep you guessing.
![]() * These are the older proof marks, I can't seem to find a picture of the modern ones.

I spoke with one of the managers at a sporting goods store a couple years ago. He told me that Colt no longer offers the 1911 style .45 except to law enforcement and government entities. I was wondering if you knew if this was true.
I somehow doubt this as the vacuum created could be readily filled by Kimber, Ruger, Sig Sauer and Springfield Armory just to name a few. Colt Industries had a bankruptcy restructuring plan approved in January of 2016. Conversion kits to change from .45 to .22 are also available for a lot of these 1911 style weapons. http://www.advantagearms.com/mm5/mer...gory_Code=1911 Last edited by Commander Wallace; 06-06-18 at 10:16 AM. |

Interesting I hadn't known Colt had been in bankruptcy, didn't Remington just under go the same thing?
There looks like many available on Bud's Gun Shop website. I live in Lexington Kentucky so no transfer FFL fee for me. https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/...er_id=10000572 After having the Colt .22lr above I wanted to get a real Colt .45 railgun but it was just way too expensive for me.

You are right in that Remington also filed for bankruptcy protection. Colt can be added to that list as well. http://money.cnn.com/2018/03/25/news...tcy/index.html It seems lawsuits against these companies may be in part, to blame. Remington faced lawsuits as it manufactured the Bushmaster ar-15 style assault rifle used to kill the children at Sandy hook. The lawsuits are ridiculous as both manufacturers met state and federal standards for the manufacture, distribution and sales of these weapons. Subsim members have debated this and largely agreed the manufacturers were not responsible for how these weapons were used once they left the retail outlets. Since Subsim members represent a cross section of society as a whole, I'll assume most people in general feel the same way. While these shootings have been horrific and tragic, the manufacturers are hardly responsible if they followed state and Federal guidelines. A number of reputable gun owners have expressed concern with the stigma of owning firearms connected with senseless shootings which is sad and unfair to these manufacturers and gun owners. This may well be the intent and agenda of those wishing to ban firearms altogether. http://www.courant.com/news/connecti...326-story.html As I mentioned, there are other reputable manufactures who produce excellent 1911 style pistols. Another is made in Canada. I don't remember the name but was told it also enjoys an excellent reputation. I'm sure some of our Subsim members who enjoy recreational shooting, know more than I do and may be able to point you in the right direction with regards to quality variants of the 1911 style pistols. The Canadian manufacturer of the 1911 style pistol I mentioned was Para Ordnance. By all accounts, it was an excellent made weapon. Para Ordnance was acquired by Remington firearms so it's anybody's guess as to it being manufactured again. http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2...ll-mark-slide/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Para_USA Good thread Otto. ![]() Stay safe. |
