Just finished reading this book about the history of the TANG. The book is excellently written by Alex Kershaw who spent hours of research and conducted extensive interviews with the 9 men who survived.
Details of the personality of Dick O'Kane, the aggressive tactics he used to achieve Tangs legendary record of kills and then the horror of realizing the last torpedo fired was on a circular run and she ended up sinking herself! Extensive recollections of the men who were trapped in the sub 180' below the surface..what they did to escape and those who were lost. Then the 9 who made it out, picked up by a Japanese patrol boat and the hell that followed in the POW camps. I can't believe how this book has not been made into a film by now. What a story!

I read it about, oh 10 years ago now. Took me three days to get through it, I just couldn't put it down. An excellent book indeed.
