Japanese primatologists have proven thatchimps understand and can play the game. Firstly, they were taught that paper beats rock, then that rock beats scissors, and finally that scissors beats paper. However they have a fatal Achilles' heel. The apes take far longer to grasp that scissors can beat paper, than to understand the other winning combinations.
