Is this normal for as many as 32 Jap planes to fly over a sub in about 3 hrs time? Also is it normal to be attacked by Jap planes between Midway and Pearl Harbor?
Now for the fun question. Followed the Dick Kane attack. Plotted the ships course, then set up a 90 degree course to ships course. Plotted the speed, then double clicked to send info, then did the AOB. Since want to shoot shoot 15 degrees before ship reaches the 90 degree mark, put that AOB on dial, then double click. Now the real fun, when check the attack map, it show a torpedo track at almost 90 degrees from sub. Found this out first time tried the manual TDC and when brought up attack map watched as torpedo passed behind ship at almost 500 yds. So another question is this normal for the of the torpedo the be at 16 degrees or better off bow of ship and show hitting ship at about a 45 degree in the rear end. I thought the bearing and torpedo track would be close to matching in direction. ![]() |

You don't say which version you're playing. Also, you might get a better response if you post in the appropriate game forum.

You need to post this in the Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific forum.
But I will offer a suggestion. Pick up some screen recording software and record your attacks as video so you can review your attack after the fact. It then becomes very easy to determine where your attack went wrong. Also, always use the attack map. Using the Dick O'Kane method we're not going to get an exact zero gyro shot where the torpedo goes right up the zero bearing. You can be off by 5º, but your shot will be essentially straight ahead. If you see the torpedo taking a 90º turn, then you have made a grievous error. Normally the easiest way to accomplish this is to enter the AoB as starboard when it is really port or versa visa. Remember the answer to "is the AoB starboard or port" is the same as "which side of the target am I looking at?" Also a target traveling from port to starboard has a starboard AoB. A target traveling from starboard to port has a port AoB. Use whichever is easiest to remember. But the key to spotting exactly where you erred is video.

In the Stock game you can expect Jap aircraft 24/365. Some players turn down the number of Jap night fliers. There are mods that do this or you can edit your own file with a text editor like NotePad, it's simple. The Japanese had a secret base that we never new of between Pearl & Midway. As you get close to either port you can expect a lot of friendlies. Don't worry about them and don't shoot them down or you will be attacked by US ASW. In \Data\cfg\AirStrike.cfg edit the Night Modifier to: Night Modifier=0.005 This will eliminate the night attacks by 90%. Happy Hunting!

This is a brand new Silent Hunter 4 with U Boat. Package was a new disc, unopened.
Question: Is it normal to sink without being depth charged. Shot two torpedos at ship in a convey, then dived down to 250 ft. and silent running. Went under the convey and keep under the convey to the other side. When cleared the other side of the convey, next thing message saying hull damage, then flooding, system failures, and bye bye sub. No destroyers or pings. How about use deck gun to sink a merchant ship at over 500 yds and be sunk when the merchant explodes? Also when load a save game after a refit, sub on surface not moving, first message receive is that sub is taking hull damage, mostly happens at Midway. Sernerio: Wrote this down, ship coming from right to left, speed of ship is 9 knots. Want a 15 degree lead. Distance is 2000 yds. First put in speed at 9 knots, double click, speed shows 9 knots. Next set the AOB to show the 15 degree lead, (0 on dial is to left and 180 to right, so 15 degrees from 90 would be 105 degrees). Double click on this. Now without doing distance, the TDC show 9 knots, and 3000 yds. Now the torpedo gyro angle is 51 degrees. When look at the attack map, torpedo track is now behind the ship. Now have to turn the sub to port so torpedo track will catch up and get in front of ship so hopefully can fire torpedos and hit and sink ship. What is the best distance to shoot at a ship, been trying most shots at 1,500 to 2,000 yds. |
