New Mods & Best Composition

Bearing in mind there are new mods appearing periodically and its about 4-5 years since I last asked. Q: Which mods, in which loading order, are now the optimum composition for SH4?

Ok...

Can't define any of the following that I am going to mention... as being definitively better than the others... as it all comes down to a matter of... tastes, meaning of which way that you want to roll... as a U-boat skipper, an IJN one, a Brit commander... a U.S. one, a russian skipper...

Onward then... shall we...


U-boats:


KSD II: Ace (eng. translated & being worked on to improve it further from the base version, KSD II)


Oper. Monsun: Dark Waters v6

Improved, as much as possible & think that there is still work ongoing, to improve it further... but can't swear to that, with 100% certainty...


On the Brit side of things, there is... We dive at Dawn, but... be aware, that this set is in the bonus section... for those that are supporters... it does come with some add inz that help to round it out that are available in the normal downloads section, with a couple that may have disappeared into the Bermuda Triangle...

After that, is...


FotRS-U (now up to v1.7x 7 the x meaning it is being futher worked on... so.. no telling what will be the official final designator on it.. as there was with v1.46 or the predecessor v1.39. It could well, end up being designated v1.8 by the time all is said & done... just a SWAG so take that, with a heaping grains of salt on it... )


v2.5 TMOverhauled-BH v1.x (As with FotRS-U, this 1, is also being updated & reworked... currently is a v1x of it... with, in the works... a v2x)


To round out the field, as they say... is the following. Note that as with WdaD, that they are not completed works, but base set ups... that still need a bit of... refinement...

IJN


There is a couple of mod add inz that work best with a base stock copy of SH4... & after adding in those mods, allow for a rather... limited means of skippering IJN subs.

Not fully refined, but... still enjoyable, if you overlook the lack of proper crew, command voices &... the limited missions. As the IJN, didn't really go into using subs in an attack mode near as much as say... their U.S./Brit/German/Russian counterparts did.


Soviet Waterways

As with IJN, this also calls for using base stock SH4...

just be prepared for not having a TDC of any kind... this 1, calls for the user... to have to actually figure out every aspect of attack... in all aspects.

Originally released in Russian... there is, a Eng. translation add in, that makes it a bit easier to work within the sim... but, it is NOT 100% perfect.


SubRon 50

With this set up, it calls for the mods for SubRon 50, to be added in, lastly... after the original set up of... Operation Monsun

Of all these, that I've mentioned... call for having SH4 v1.5, for them to work...



The main ones that are known of being worked on, to date are, as follows...


FotRS-U, TMOverhauled-BH v2.5x, &... as I mentioned, I believe... Oper. Monsun: Dark, but... can't confirm that, 100% though.

With v2.5 TMOverhauled-BH v1.x, from what I know... at best, that with the update in the works for it, of including a pre-Pearl career start &... being able to short stint career startup of a SubRon 50 one... as last mentioned.

Realized that, in closing, I did miss one that is still being worked on in that list... & this being, KSD II: Ace, with Niume & (others, but no clear delineation of who the others may be... other than Silenter as they're known of on Discord... who that I know with certainty, put together the unpack/installer for it.) I believe others, in refining what Alex started off with, in forming the KSD team...

Think with the original team for KSD II, that once they got things sort of set up... (in Russian or other language from that area... not trying to be rude here... just is like, a lot of different tongues over there & is hard to know what 1 is what, when ya don't read, speak or write in that native tongue...) Any who... to continue... & after getting things set up as they are with the original KSD set up, then turned their... attention/focus to getting the ball rolling on rolling in the mod set in a multi wolf pack mode.

Which is all well & good.



What I don't think, they counted on... was in others, enjoying it & wanting to roll with playing in a solid based career mode.... which is where Niume, comes in & shines... as do any others that are assisting... hard to say, as the main 1, that I see of as the face of it all... is Niume.

Working it, so to put it into an English format, which then... others can take what was done there & be able to... put it into their own language.



My apologies, for the oversight of not adding that into the info that I detailed to begin with... felt I was missing something, when I first posted... &... shoulda listened to that niggling alarm bell going off screaming...

No prob... but, given the nature of the beast... aka SH4, felt it was wise, to... cover the bases... aka the lineup of choices available.

That way, one has the widest possible selection to then... choose from.


At any rate... in that lineup, is noted a number of setups to go with that covers the U.S. fleetboat side of the war...
