1) How much is important the depth setting of magnetic shots for the severity of damage caused to target ship? Is the rule "the closer is the torpedo explosion to the ship = the more serious damage the target ship takes" valid in SH3 GWX?
2) What is the optimal depth (under the keel) for magnetic shots in normal seas against the DD on attack run? I made defensive magnetic shot against the attacking Black Swan wanting to avenge the sinking of Southampton class cruiser and torpedo exploded right front of the fore ammo bunker (settings: magnetic, depth ~0.8m under its keel). Black Swan interrupted its attack run, lost the courage for any further depth charge attacks and retreated back to convoy. ![]() The question is - should be used the deeper depth setting to score a kill next time? I guess the torpedo could travel more distance and have better chance to hit some weak spot...

Personally i set depth @ 2 meters, magnetic pistol fast speed when firing defensive shots at DDs.
2m seems to get the job done 100% of the time regardless of what type of DD it is, if i manage to hit it, problem is i barely ever manage to hit them. How do you do your torpedo solution when defending against an attacking DD? do you just "eyeball it"? |

I adjust my course to prepare for perfect straight shot so the torpedo doesn't need to make any course adjustment. For zig-zagging DD I wait for close range (~400 m) when DD comes straight in on their attack run.

I set my torpedoes to impact, 2m fast speed without any calculations. What I do is I fire one torpedo more like a decoy straight run at DD and then 1 torpedo slightly left and another slightly right of the ship...he will make turn when he sees the first torpedo and then boom. In about 70% I hit the target.

You could always sit down with the DD commander and talk out your differences!

Is it normal that DD survives hit with magnetic shot (setting: 1 m under the keel) which caused forward ammo bunker explosion destroying both forward gun turrets?
![]() DD just retreated back to convoy and returned back to its position in convoy...

I'd go with bstanko6 and offer him a nice cup of tea, some sauerkraut and bratwurst, ask him to come to a stop while getting in position and boom!
More seriously, I haven't yet been able to one shot a DD. I'd far rather survive and save my eels for a merchant with a death wish. ![]() |
