Default The threat from AI: algorithmic blacklisting

http://www.infoworld.com/article/313...our-money.html

I am used to being laughed about and getting linked to the stone age for mentioning the risks of privacy breaches, customer profiling and unlimited, uncritical use of AI technology. Many people got educated from child age on nowadays to always embrace new tech stuff uncritically, since new tech always is good.

Consider that article as another invitation by well-meaning, friendly und patient fate to ring your alarm bells, even if you consider it to be annoying and hit the snooze button as soon as you can. One day, sooner or later, you will reach out - and find that the snooze button is gone, and that your life is heading for a hard crash-impacting on the brutal ground of reality.

So doze on, if you think that is clever.

I've said this already six years ago here, even this very site fell for this if you remember Google stopped it's adverts here because of two words that were completely unrelated, but picked up somehow.

Connecting dots with algorhythms using metadata have already killed people, if you think of drones. No direct reading of messages necessary any more.

Google, Apple, Microsoft, they are all working on removing our privacy, and we celebrate them as new technology, modern, and hip. I remember political demonstations against giving away data here, now all the world post it openly on facebook.

If i were a thief i'd read FB and when people are out to watch a show etc., but it's not only the official criminals. It's also the perfectly legal companies, like banks, and health insurances a.s.o.. You cannot do anything against it as long as you have a bank account. They will give info about your status to any other bank.
Posted you need a job somewhere? Kiss your credit goodbye, and don't try to ask another bank. Over 60? No credit for you, also you just wrote somewhere your car broke down and you could not afford to fix it this month.

It probably helps millionaires though. If not Trump

Has anyone noted the terrible irony of Skybird coming to the internet to tell everybody how terrible the internet is yes? If no, then there is a lot of irony in Skybird using the internet to tell everyone how terrible the internet is.

Enough of the ridiculing someone because they have an opinion different from yours. Once in a while, ok, but every time?

To be fair, I don't think Skybird is saying the Internet is terrible, He is saying precautions should be taken when using new or relatively new technology. This is great advice for anyone. Security measure are the responsibility of the individual user. If one is happy and comfortable with the security measures they are using, so be it. These facts have been pretty well established by the disclosures of Snowden that spying is alive and well in the U.S and the U.K and probably elsewhere.

One need look no further than news stories of security agencies trying to force apple and others to give them backdoor access to electronic devices including mobile devices like cell phones to know this is true. One would have to live in a cave to not know these facts are true. If Snowden revealed what he knew in an open forum, I'm sure there are others that would have laughed at him too and called his allegations preposterous.

I couldn't have said it better. Great analogy.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but when it becomes rather patronizing preaching, are you really surprise that it provokes a negative response?

Sure, patronizing people will earn a negative response, but it shouldn't be automatic. And let's be fair, there is a lot of gif-trolling here. How hard is it to ignore? Some people have their drum to beat. I say just as long as they don't spam the place, (shrug).

I agree, but when it is the same member preaching over and over again, it just becomes automatic. Personally, I did read the article and found it very much doesn't affect mean. So, for me it was just another of Skybird's 'Doom 'n Gloom' threads, hence my short reply.

Sometimes it is easier to convey your feelings over the internet via GIF.

It can be surprisingly hard.

Anywhoo, that's my .2 cents.

I agree with the guy above.

Skybird, it isn't even what you say in general, it is how you say it.
You really can't make a post like that which is the picture perfect example of some bat-poop-crazy tinfoil freak informing everyone about "thy end is nigh!" and then complain that no one takes you serious anymore.

Also, who here said embrace all new tech?
Most people here seem to be well aware that not everything new is automatically just good.
There are reasons I do not use facebook or any other social media, won't spread my real name on the net, not my picture/face etc. etc.

People who do that, frankly, are absolutely naive, stupid - or really just don't know better, which isn't surprising.
However, such a post like your OP isn't helping, it is condescending, generalizing and flat out paranoid.

Quite.

Compare and contrast the following:

1) Writing a detailed blow by blow response taking around half an hour of your time every time the same point is raised or

2) Finding a humorous gif and copying and pasting it, taking around five minutes maximum.
