Things I've forgotten about SH4

Due to health reasons my family and had to move in with my wife's uncle. A good portion of our belongings are in storage. This includes all my notes I had for SH4. While I will do some advanced searches of the forums here, I would still like some advice on a few topics so I can make a "mini manual" verses the binder I compiled that's in storage.

The first thing I could use a refresher on is torpedoes. How deep to set them, how fast they should go, off settings. And I hate to say this, I've forgotten all about which torpedoes had issues with detonation.

There's one aspect I don't often see mentioned and that's on how my crew gains experience as they complete missions. Because of the move I mentioned earlier I haven't played SH4 for about 3 years now. I've totally forgotten how I can assign skills to crew members. The pertains to the ones I added while in port at the beginning of the game. I loaded my DC with men with no experience to save on renown so I could add crew members with more experience in critical stations.
