Default Steam is HUGE

I have used digital downloads for over a decade with no problems. It's really the same as having a disk. Just that the disc is stored on a server somewhere. GamersGate offers all the SH games. I bought SH3, SH4 and SH5 there, as a bundle for $9. When ever I have needed help I get a real person that gives me attention. I'm pleased.

Steam is massive. Some people have difficulties and you are not as likely to get any help. Fortunately most transactions are trouble free. But write your password down somewhere, I forgot mine once and was locked out of my steam account for 6 months. Wasn't happy.

Oh and I understand that some mods will not work with steam. For example the steam version of SH5 does not support the TDW generic patcher and therefore wont work with the Wolves of Steel Mega Mod.

Summary: I trust several digital download companies but not steam.

I have a Steam account and checked the forums regarding SH, a lot of ppl were unhappy with their purchase through Steam, is why I opted to purchase the actual disks for SH 3,4 & 5, I guess my real concern was i disadvantaged in any way purchasing the disks, it seems not so thx for your reply, cheers

After I got my first copy of SH4 I tried to buy the 1.5 upgrade through Steam. They refused to sell it to me. This was eight years ago and they wouldn't sell outside the United States. Who knew that Utah was a foreign country? Well, now that I think about it...

In truth the girl I talked to on the phone did everything she could to help me, so I'd rate their customer service pretty highly. I later got a full copy, on disc, and that's the way I always go now.

For a game I want to use mods with (like SH), I prefer a disk or a standalone digital download (like from Amazon). I had trouble with Steam trying to patch/repair a SH install, which I think was due to a mod being installed.

For a game which I do not intend to install mods, I have no problem with Steam. The prices are usually good (especially if you can resist getting a brand new game and wait for a sale), and I have a stable internet connection so no trouble staying on line.

If you want to play SH5 then Steam should NOT be considered an an option.
TDW's Generic File Patcher an essential application to play SH5 does not support Steam.
Downloads you do not own, a dvd disc you do.

Those youngsters...

You can buy a car for 25 000 or you can have the allowance to drive the car for 25 000. What would you prefer?

Steam can refuse to let you use your steamed car, but you can't refuse to let them spend your money. Sounds fair?

You can sell a bought car, but not a rented one.

But it is hip and trendy, enables you to drive a car immediately, you can ask to drive the car from all over the world (you are constantly all over the world, right?) - and you conformly support the official anti car piracy efforts. That's your duty as a decent citizen.

It is considered to be piracy to drive the car of your friend. You have to buy your own car. No, even better - now you shall buy a license to drive a car, but not the car itself. The control over the car itself - and who is allowed to drive it - shall be not yours anymore. Otherwise it would reduce the profit of the rental system - and this has to be your first priority concern.

Thank you for your cooperation - especially in the name of our shareholders.
